Some could say that the thriving London festival scene is tragically cursed. The passing of Frankie Knuckles, before he could headline the Found festival and the unfortunate passing of legendary Soul singer Bobby Womack, in late June, less than one month before he was due to headline the Walthamstow Garden Party only added to this feeling. Despite the tragic losses, this year’s Walthamstow Garden Party went off in fantastic fashion. The two-day festival was jampacked with live music, activities, food stalls and plenty more too boot.
Over 33,000 people turned up over the two-day event organized by Barbican, Create London, London Borough of Waltham Forest and Feal Food Festivals. As the revelers queued, the lucky few to fast track through the doors were greeted with live music from the likes of Bollywood Vibes, performing on the Barbican Music Stage, to the amazing Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain; alongside a whole host of other fantastic performers.
As the day went by, hungry belly’s were appeased with the wonderful delights on offer at the Real Food Festival, offering dish after dish from every corner of the world. Whether you craved a homemade hotdog, hearty burger or simply a melon burst smoothie, we’re sure your belly found its fill.
Not to be outdone, the Barbican Park Stage held a plethora of dance, circus and music acts, while the craft enthusiasts were astounded by the many workshops throughout the day, which in turn kept the eager crowd wanting more. Whether you enjoyed seeing all of the different acts, listening to music or simply you wished to enjoy the summer sun this year Walthamstow Garden Party was one not to miss.
